They excel in advanced obedience training. Because the Bichon Frise loves to please, he is easy to train. They do not like being left alone and can suffer from separation anxiety. The Bichon Frise loves to be around people and children. The Dachshund can be stubborn and strong-willed. He may show signs of being territorial with other dogs in proximity of his home. Sometimes fearful of strangers, this hybrid should be introduced often to new people. He is loyal and protective of his owners. The Dachshund is usually bold, playful and fearless. Therefore, it is important to keep an eye on your Doxie-Chon after his puppy shots and annual vaccinations. Some Bichon Frise are vaccine sensitive, which means they can develop hives, facial swelling and soreness after the vaccination. A veterinarian or groomer can show you how to correctly trim his nails. It is recommended that dogs be seen by a veterinarian once a year for a wellness check. A dog’s toenails have blood vessels in them, and if you cut too far down it can cause bleeding. Nails should be clipped monthly with care if they do not wear down naturally. ![]() His teeth should be brushed weekly to prevent tartar buildup and gum disease. Occasional professional grooming may be necessary, a few times a year to keep the coat the proper shape and thickness. The wirehaired and the longhaired cousins were developed by breeding the Dachshund with Spaniels and Terriers. The first American Dachshund Club was founded in 1881 and the breed was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1885. Ancestors of the smooth variety are thought to be the Braque, the French Basset Hound and the Pinscher. Keen on the scent and gifted with powerful legs, this breed was a helpful companion to the hunter. It is believed that the Dachshund originated in Germany in the early 1600s, bred as a hunter skilled at rousing game from their dens.
